TIP: Think about what's going to be reflected in a mirror before choosing a shape: "A Baroque frame would have messed with the visual of the painting."

A pair of fabulous paintings by Melissa Matsuki Lillie tie the room's color scheme together. Custom slab wood tables by Keith Wilson are set on a Dash & Albert Rug Company indoor-outdoor carpet. "That's one of our indoor-outdoor rugs. Very practical in mud season, with three dogs," Selke says.

Fireplace Focal Point

By removing the wall, the central fireplace becomes visible throughout the home, opening to the living room, kitchen, and study. "It made it feel so much larger. You can circulate through both rooms, which really works nicely and makes entertaining easier," Selke says.
